EUROPEADE 2017 – join us in creating the best event of the summer!

The first Finnish Europeade, the biggest folk culture event in Europe, will be organised in  Turku 26–30 July 2017.

We are expecting over 6,000 folk dancers, musicians and singers  from all European countries as well as a large number of visitors.

We are now looking for volunteers to build the best Europeade ever.

There’s something to do for everyone: from accommodation monitoring to programme-related tasks, and from guiding tours to distributing food.

What we expect from you:

  • a minimum age of 15 
  • a responsible attitude and initiative 
  • the ability to get along well with other people 
  • the preparedness to commit to achieving our shared goals 
  • availability on the designated dates and times and
  • preparedness  to participate in the training events to be held during the summer

Volunteers are sought for the following assignments: 

  • meal monitoring and assistance 
  • accommodation monitoring  
  • programme-related assignments 
  • guides for groups 
  • communication 
  • product sales 
  • transportation

For each group, we will try to find a guide who speaks the group’s native language.  We need people who speak Finnish, Swedish, English, Spanish, Flemish, Italian, Greek, Latvian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Polish, French, Romanian, German, Slovene, Danish, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, and Estonian.

Volunteer trainings will be organised on Wednesday, 14 June and Monday, 24 July, from 5 to 8 pm. The location will be announced later.

All work is carried out on an unpaid volunteer basis. One volunteer shift usually lasts for six hours. We hope that you will be able to commit to several days. Full-time volunteers who put in at least 18 hours during the event will receive a volunteer shirt and meals during their shifts, as well as a free pass to all of the Europeade events which are subject to an entrance fee. If necessary, we can also offer accommodation at a school. A certificate can be written upon request for those participating in the training and volunteer work.

Study in Turku – fair 31.8.2017

Preliminary information about the event:
Study in Turku – fair for all university students in Turku on 31st of August 2017.

The Turku city and different companies will present services offered to students. Besides these services, the event also features student unions, employment services, trade unions, etc.

More information will be available closer to the event.

The event will take place in ICT-City, Joukahaisenkatu 3, Turku.

Project Aces is a working life simulation for the students of the higher education institutions of Turku, which offers to learn the project management basics through a client project. The students execute the project in multidisciplinary, and also international teams of 3-5 students.

The client projects tackle the development challenges of local enterprises, public sector organisations and NGOs. The projects can include e.g. planning and organising events, or developing marketing, communications, logistics or products.

For students the Project Aces offers:

  • project management experience
  • real working life environment
  • possibility to learn by working with real clients
  • international multidisciplinary student teams
  • possibility to get ECTS to include into your degree
  • contacts and skills for further job-hunting

The training is centered around client project conducted in multidisciplinary groups of 3-5 students. In addition, a Kick-off Camp and meetings to support the client project are organised.

Mystery path is approx. 4 km long, and its beginning and end are located on the Old Great Square. Along the Path, there will be 8 to 10 crosspoints, which are presenting cultural- and everyday life services by the City of Turku as well as associations and organizations in Turku.

From the start area you’ll get a route map and passport. To the passport you’ll be collecting marks from every crosspoint. Full passport will solve the LOST IN TURKU- mystery and it will be returned to the end zone and each member of the group gets product prizes. Among all the groups who have completed the Mystery Path, will be drawn tickets to Escape Room Sly Fox’s real-life escape game.

Summer holiday time and Finnish tradition and Working Life 24.4.2017

As part of POLKU-project we organize an evening for new
international students to learn about Finnish culture, customs and
work life during the summer holiday time.

Welcome to  hear about summer holiday time and Finnish culture and tradition and their relations to working life. We will concentrate
on summer time holidays (from 1st of May until autumn) and
traditions and discuss how these affect working life.

We will also have some small snacks and non-alcoholic bewerages.
