Call for Editors and Subeditors: Ethnologia Fennica

Ethnologia Fennica, a journal published by the Association of Finnish Ethnologists (Ethnos ry) is looking for three new Editors and two new Subeditors for the next 3-year period (2025-2028). Ethnologia Fennica is an international journal that publishes original scholarly articles, review articles, congress reports and book reviews that promote Ethnological research. The articles undergo double-blind peer review. The journal is published twice a year with full open access. For more information, see: https://journal.fi/ethnolfenn.

Editors

Article Editors should have a PhD in Ethnology or related disciplines and experience in writing and editing academic articles. The tasks of Editors include editing research and review articles and communication with the authors and reviewers.

Subeditors

The editorial tasks of Subeditors are suited for PhD students, and the candidates are expected to hold MA in Ethnology or related disciplines. The tasks of Subeditors include editing of book reviews and conference reports, commentaries, and news. Experience of editing scholarly texts is beneficial but not mandatory.

The Editors and Subeditors are not paid, but the position as part of the editorial team offers valuable academic merits and a unique view to contemporary Ethnological research and international scholarly publishing. Written applications (one page) with a CV including a list of publications (max. 2 pages) attached can be sent to EF(at)ethnosry.org by May 31st 2025.

The Editors and Subeditors are chosen and appointed by Ethnos ry, and they will join the editorial team starting from August 2025. Päätoimittajaksi tai toimittajaksi Eloreen vuoden 2025 alusta?

Elore hakee toimituskuntaansa vahvistusta. Haemme täydennystä lehden artikkeli- ja ajankohtaistoimituksiin. Artikkelitoimitukseen haemme folkloristiikan ja lähialojen väitelleitä tutkijoita. Ajankohtaistoimituksen jäsenyys taas soveltuu erinomaisesti myös väitöskirjatutkijoille, jotka haluavat tutustua tieteellisen lehden toimittamiseen ja verkostoitua tieteenalan muihin tutkijoihin.

Lisäksi etsimme innokasta ja toimekasta päätoimittajaa kahden vuoden kaudeksi vuoden 2025 alusta alkaen, nykyisen vanhemman päätoimittajan luopuessa tehtävästään. Päätoimittajia on Elorella aina kaksi. Vuonna 2025 aloittava uusi päätoimittaja hoitaa tehtävää vuoden ajan yhdessä nykyisen päätoimittaja Tuukka Karlssonin kanssa ja saa vuodeksi 2026 parikseen uuden päätoimittajan. Päätoimittajalta odotamme kokemusta tieteellisten artikkelien toimittamisesta, folkloristiikan ja lähialojen tuntemusta, sekä yhteistyö- ja päätöksentekokykyä.

New series from Berghahn Books: SIEF Series in Ethnology and Folklore: New Directions in the Study of Everyday Life, Past and Present and the call for a Series co-editor

SIEF is pleased to be launching the SIEF Series in Ethnology and Folklore: New Directions in the Study of Everyday Life, Past and Present with Berghahn Books in 2024. The SIEF Book Series is dedicated to presenting cutting-edge research in the fields of ethnology, folklore studies and related areas by publishing rigorous peer-reviewed monographs and edited collections. It aligns with one of SIEF’s flagship journals Ethnologia Europea’s transition to Berghahn and complements the efforts of our sister organization EASA’s Book Series and journals at Berghahn.

Call for Editorial Secretary and two Subeditors for Ethnologia Fennica

Ethnologia Fennica, a journal of European ethnology published by the Association of Finnish Ethnologists (Ethnos ry) is looking for Editorial Secretary and two Subeditors for the next 3-year period (2024–2026). Ethnologia Fennica is an English language journal that publishes original scholarly articles, review articles, congress reports and book reviews that promote ethnological research. The articles undergo double-blind peer review. The journal is published twice a year. Starting from vol. 43 (2018), the journal has been published online with full open access. The editorial tasks of Editorial Secretary and Subeditors are suited for PhD students and the candidates are expected to hold MA in ethnology or related disciplines. Both tasks offer valuable academic merits and a unique view to contemporary ethnological research and international scholarly publishing.

Editorial Secretary needs to hold good communication skills in both Finnish and English. Experience of editing scientific texts is beneficial, but the new Secretary will be trained to participate in the editorial process and in the use of Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. An annual compensation of 500 euros is granted for the task.

The tasks of Subeditors include editing of book reviews and conference reports, commentaries, and news, and tasks related to communication. Experience of editing scientific texts is beneficial but not mandatory. For the position you will need to have good language skills in English. Subeditors are not paid.
