Cecilia Ahern: If you could see med now

Cecilia Ahern: If you could see med now. 2005
Pocket (kirppis)

Elizabeth Egan’s life runs on order: Both her home and her emotions are arranged just so, with little room for spontaneity. It’s how she counteracts the chaos of her family—an alcoholic mother who left when she was young, an emotionally distant father, and a siste, lleaving her own six-year-old son, Luke, in Elizabeth’s care. Ivan, Luke’s mysterious new grown-up friend, enters the picture. With his penchant for adventure and colorful take on things large and small, Ivan opens Elizabeth’s eyes to a whole new way of living.

Ngaio Marsh: Death of a Fool

Ngaio Marsh: Death of a Fool. 1957
Ljudbok (6 CD, Lovisa stadsbibba)

Set in the freezing, snowbound Winter of a small English village based on the Kent village of Birling, the plot concerns the annual performance in the courtyard of the local crumbling castle of an historic folkloric ritual. Marsh is clearly fascinated by the idea,  that ”The Dance of the Five Sons” during which the murder is committed) is a folkloric blueprint or ur-text for Shakespeare’s King Lear, a play Marsh greatly admired and herself directed in New Zealand in 1956. It’s a ”classic puzzle whodunit” form of which Ngaio Marsh was so outstanding.

Jessica Fellowes: The Mitford Trial

Jessica Fellowes: The Mitford Trial. 2020

Julian Fellowes: Belgravia

Julian Fellowes: Belgravia.2016
Inbunden (från kirppis)

Den börjar på the Richmond Ball i Bryssel (the evening of 15 June 1815, the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, the great and the good of British society have gathered in Brussels) – dvs. samma fest som finns i Vanity Fair (som jag såg två TV-serier om).
On at what is to become one of the most tragic parties in history – the Duchess of Richmond’s ball.

Palacio wrote Wonder after an incident where her son noticed a girl with a severe facial difference and started to cry. Fearing he would react badly, Palacio attempted to remove her son from the situation so as not to upset the girl and her family but ended up worsening the situation.

Välskriven, lättlyssnad!

Peter Temple: Truth

Peter Temple: Truth. 2010
Ljudbok (mp3, ca 10 h)

”In a summer of devastating forest fires in Australia, Inspector Stephen Villani, head of the Victoria homicide squad, has a spate of new killings to contend with. A woman has been found in a luxury apartment block with her neck broken. There is little hope of identifying her, and the apartment’s residents are proving impossible to trace. Meanwhile, the mutilated bodies of three drug dealers have been discovered in an abandoned warehouse across the city. Villani’s attempts to uncover the facts behind these crimes are obstructed from almost every angle: the owner of the apartment block has many influential friends, and is keen to preserve the reputation of his investment; politicians, senior police officers and figures in the media all throw their weight against the investigation, while Villani’s own subordinates undermine him at every turn.
Villani himself is an adulterous husband and an inadequate, guilt-ridden father and son; it emerges that he once helped another officer to disguise the fatal shooting of an unarmed suspect as an act of self-defence. He begins to realise that one of his colleagues might be among the people responsible for the crimes he’s investigating.”

Jag har inte läst många deckare från Australien – den här var lite svårt att hålla uppe koncentrationen för, undrar varför…
