Previous Meetings

The Scandinavian-Nordic Section of the Combustion Institute has held a number of topical and biannial meetings including general section meetings.

The 11th Topical Meeting in junction with the Nordic Flame Days 2019
The Nordic Flame Days was held in Turku, Finland, August 28-29, 2019. It was arranged by the Swedish and Finnish National Committees of International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) and the Scandinavian-Nordic Section of the Combustion Institute (CINS).

The 9th Biennial Meeting
“Joint meeting of the Polish and Scandinavian-Nordic Sections of the Combustion Institute” was held in Krakow, Poland, September 6–7, 2018.

The 10th Topical Meeting in junction with the Nordic Flame Days 2017
The Nordic Flame Days was held in Stockholm, Sweden, October 10-11, 2017. It was arranged by the Swedish and Finnish National Committees of International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) and the Scandinavian-Nordic Section of the Combustion Institute (CINS).

The 8th Biennial Meeting
“Joint meeting of the Portuguese and Scandinavian-Nordic Sections of the Combustion Institute” was held in Lisbon, Portugal, 17-18th November, 2016. Over the two days there were two invited Keynote lectures by Prof. Maria U. Alzueta and Dr. Christer Fureby followed by oral presentations in two parallel sessions. The meeting was held in conjunction of the COST Action SmartCats meeting to enable overlapping participation within the European community.

The 9th Topical Meeting in junction with the Nordic Flame Days 2015
The Nordic Flame Days was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, October 6-7, 2015. It was arranged by the Swedish and Finnish National Committees of International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) and the Scandinavian-Nordic Section of the Combustion Institute (CINS). 121 researchers from academia and industry attended the conference with more than 50 presentation on different aspects of combustion (from Flame Days website). The meeting included the Sections Topical Session on high pressure/turbine combustion, the General Assembly as well as a special meeting for Women in Combustion Scandinavian-Nordic Section. 

The 7th Biennial Meeting
Joint meeting of the British and Scandinavian-Nordic Sections of the Combustion Institute” was held in Cambridge, UK, March 27-28, 2014. The meeting had over 90 participants and 59 papers were presented. In addition, there were two invited keynote lectures. 

The 6th European Combustion Meeting
In total, 575 participants from 39 countries presented and discussed 447 papers on all topics of combustion. Moreover, 5 outstanding Plenary talks were highly appreciated by young and experienced researchers. (from ECM 2013 website)

The 8th Topical Meeting
on fire and explosion safety  was held in Bergen, Norway, November 1-2, 2012.
The meeting had 10 presentations and an excursion to GexCon’s large scale test facility on Sotra. There were more than 36 participants.

The 6th Biennial Meeting
was held in Trondheim, Norway, November 28-29, 2011. The meeting had 23 participants and there were 18 presentations. In conjunction with the Biennial meeting, a General Section Meeting was held. New board members were elected, with new chairman Terese Løvås.

The 7th Topical Meeting
in conjunction with “Swedish-Finnish Flame Days” was held in Piteå, Sweden, January 26-27, 2011. The meeting had 34 presentations and more than 60 participants.

The 5th Biennial Meeting
First joint meeting of the Scandinavian-Nordic and French Sections of the Combustion Institute” was held in Copenhagen, November 9-10, 2009. The meeting had 72 participants and there were 2 invited speakers, 35 presentations, and 10 posters. In conjunction with the Biennial meeting, a General Section Meeting was held.

The 6th Topical Meeting
Measuring Techniques in Combustion” was held October 23-24, 2008, at Chalmers in Gothenburg, Sweden. The meeting had 53 participants and there were 20 presentations and two invited speakers.

The 4th Biennial Meeting
with special emphasis on combustion research in the Nordic countries was held November 5-6, 2007, Åbo/Turku, Finland. In conjunction with the Biennial meeting in Åbo, a General Section Meeting was held. A new board with Peter Glarborg as chairman was elected.

The 5th Topical Meeting
entitled “Alternative Fuels for Engines” was held 15th November, 2006 at Chalmers in Gothenburg, Sweden. Around 38 persons attended the meeting.

The 3rd Biennial Meeting
First Baltic Combustion meeting” was held November 2005 in Warsaw, Poland.

The 4th Topical Meeting
Aromatics, Aerosols and Metal Chemistry in Combustion” was held October 21-22, 2004 in Lyngby, Denmark. The meeting was attended by 35 participants, presenting 25 contributions. Also three keynote lectures where invited. An extra General Section Meeting was held in conjunction with this meeting. The Extra General Section Meeting decided to extend the board to 7 members.

The 2nd Biennial Meeting
Joint meeting of the Scandinavian-Nordic and the Italian sections of the Combustion Institute” was held on Ischia, Italy, September 18-21, 2003. The second General Section Meeting was held in conjunction with this meeting.

The 3rd Topical Meeting
Mathematical modeling of Turbulence-Combustion Interaction, with Special Emphasis on the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC)” was held September 10-11, 2002 in Trondheim, Norway.

The 1st Biennial Meeting
was held April 18-20, 2001, Gothenburg, Sweden. The proceedings can be purchased from the secretariat. In conjunction with the Biennial meeting in Gothenburg, the First General Section Meeting was held.

The 2nd Topical Meeting
Modelling of Combustion and Combustion Processes” was held November 15-16, 2000, hosted by the Åbo Akademi Process Chemistry Group. The meeting attracted 36 participants.

The 1st Topical Meeting
A one day seminar in “Combustion Laser Diagnostics” was arranged in Lund at the end of April 2000 and attracted 54 participants.
