Some examples of life science pitches for the pitching workshops

It’s not so easy finding life science pitches but here’s a few I got from the web. Some of their deliveries may not be as animated as you see from other sectors but they do show how to get the message across in 2 minutes:

http://youtu.be/6rebpkhijDw – Health Puzzle (Finland) pitch at AaltoES
http://youtu.be/bDLNv7maJBM (winner of Best Biotech Elevator Pitch Award 2013)
http://youtu.be/coveLOVFs_s (1 minute Pharma pitch)

Lastly, here’s a nice article with 10 tips for creating a 2 min life sciences pitch. Good Luck!

UPDATE ON BES 2014 (http://blogs2.abo.fi/techtransfer/2014/10/09/update-on-bes-2014/)

Thank you to everyone who applied. The deadline for applications has passed and the decision on who will be participating in the course has been made & the participants have been notified. Hopefully, there will be a course next year. In the meantime there are quite a number of opportunities in Finland and online for those who are really interested in improving their business education. Check out the new page “Courses” on this blog – this is a collection of places I know about & most likely there are many more.

What is BES 2014?

The Business Essentials for Scientists (BES) Course is intended to give an introduction to various business principles and concepts and their use in practice. The course content is delivered primarily by guest speakers with extensive experience, in big business and startups, with an emphasis on real examples. BES sessions will take place over 6 afternoons from the end of October to mid-November. Individual talks are typically an hour long with time for discussion. We have designed the course so there are speakers from the pharmaceutical, chemical and technology sectors. However, the principles used in one sector can usually be adapted and applied elsewhere. The sessions are designed to be interactive so active participation is encouraged.

For the link to the application form please scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Who are guest speakers?

So far we have speakers lined up from many companies including those listed on the flyer (see bottom of the page). As the course schedule is being constantly updated to add more speakers this is not an exhaustive list.

Who is it for?

  • PhD and Post-doctoral scientists inc. ICT, Biosciences, Natural Sciences & Chemical Engineering. We also welcome applications from soft sciences and late stage Master’s students
  • Åbo Akademi University & University of Turku students
  • Anyone who is interested in getting an overview of business principles
  • Complete novices & those who may have taken other business-orientated classes
  • Students and researchers who are in the process of commercialising a technology/service at the university

Are there any prerequisite courses?

No. But we do recommend that you read this blog post to find out more about what BES 2014 is intended to be: How I got interested in the business side of science

Feel free to read some of the other blog posts about the author & course organiser’s time at Kellogg School of Management this summer. You can also check out the recommended reading tab if you are feeling particularly motivated to do some pre- or post- course reading!
