6th ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS, 25-26 September 2019
The SHUREA project in collaboration with other stakeholder is organizing the conference with the theme “Strengthening Access to Justice for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCRs)”. The idea of an Annual Conference on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights was born in 2014, at the behest of Government processes that flagged the need for constitutional reforms. more information can be found here about the outcomes as well as organizers can be found here.

Third African Forum for Doctoral Research in Human Rights (AfriDoors), Addis Ababa University School of Law, 7-11 October 2019
Strengthening Human Rights Research and Education in Sub-Saharan Africa (SHUREA) is a Finnish funded project aimed at strengthening policy relevant human rights research at the member institutions: Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), Makerere University (Uganda), University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Pretoria (South Africa) and Åbo Akademi University (Finland).
The third AfriDoors Conference will be held from 7 to 11 October 2019 at the School of Law, Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. This year’s conference theme is ‘Towards a More Robust Protection of Human Rights in Africa’. Abstract for papers at the conference is invited from doctoral students, post-docs and academic staff from the SHUREA member institutions.
It is expected that papers presented at this Conference will be reworked by authors and submitted for consideration for publication in special issues of three journals: Journal of Ethiopian Law, East African Law Journal and the African Human Rights Law Journal, provided that the articles comply with publication standards of the journals.

Africa Day Celebration: Protecting the rights of African migrants in the context of xenophobia, 23 May, 2019
The Democracy, Transparency and Digital Rights Unit of the Centre for Human Rights (the Centre), University of Pretoria, hosted an African Day Celebration on 23 May 2019. The aim of the event was to celebrate the diversity of Africa and what it means to be African. The event further aimed to facilitate a conversation on Pan-Africanism and how South Africans as a people, can stand in solidarity with African migrants on the injustices and inhuman experiences of xenophobia in South Africa.
