Learning From New Religion and Spirituality (LeNeRe)

The LeNeRe project investigates the ways in which the value of learning, so central in contemporary culture, manifests in people’s engagements with what for them is a new spiritual practice. Our case studies span the spectrum between more and less traditionally religious and spiritual. We are interested in spiritual sites as contexts of learning as well as the skills and notions adopted there. Moreover, we also inquire into how our research participants transfer their learning to different spheres of life and assess its significance. Our ethnographic project produces fresh perspectives on learning trajectories and traces dynamics and interfaces between the religious and secular domains of contemporary culture. LeNeRe is funded by the Academy of Finland (325148) and carried out at the University of Helsinki.
