Cloud computing and its effects on the information and knowledge management in big organisations

Knowledge and information are key assets of every company. If they are managed the right way, a company’s efficiency and overall performance can be increased tremendously.

Within our digital environment cloud computing seems to be a perfect way to be used as the primary tool for the management of information and knowledge inside a company. Major benefits of cloud computing are that the cloud services can be accessed at any time and from any place with every network enabling device. This leads towards much more flexibility within workflows and can improve the time management of a company remarkably, ultimately leading to an increase of the company’s overall performance. Examples like the pharmaceutical company Pfizer show how much a company is able to benefit from this new technology. However, there are also many examples of companies, which were not able to imply the use of cloud services in beneficial ways. On the contrary, the use of cloud services led to a decrease within their overall performances.

Within this paper I will use the following structure: First I will explain briefly the importance of knowledge and information for companies. In my second part I will explain the differences of cloud services offered and will give an overview of its most beneficial advantages as well as its weaknesses. Afterwards I will discuss the implementation of cloud services within companies and analyse the factors that are responsible for its successful application, using case studies as well as leadership and employee motivational theories.

  1. In your synopsis you use a logical structure. Besides it is a good idea to use example to illustrate how to implement successfully cloud computing in business, but maybe it is also interesting to present an example of failed implementation to point out the important steps or make some suggestions of improvement.
At the end of your synopsis, the connection between cloud computing and the employee motivational theory and leadership is not clear to me whether these theories are the reasons why cloud computing not work in business or whether they encourage the implementation of cloud computing.

  2. You’re covering quite many important aspects and your paper structure seems to be overall clear. Just a little notion: in your headline there is a mention of the companies being big but after that you’re not specifying why you use big organizations as examples.

It might also be good to specify what the “increase of the company’s overall performance” actually is. What is a successful company in this sense: economically successful, good for its employees or capable of managing information well? I was also a bit confused with the mention of leadership and employee motivational theories.

  3. The topic about clouds and informationsystem is a very interesting topic today.
Especially the safety aspect of the Clouds because it may indeed be already risky to store all its data in the Internet.
The structure of your paper is clear and understandable.

For me, it would be interesting to know whether there are any alternative ways to make the world as its data to arrive. Are there ways to increase the safety of Clouds for business and privat user?
One other question for me would be how big the benefit or advantage of an enterprise is the Clouds uses as opposed to a company uses no clouds.
Are there any numbers or evidence of a benefit?

  4. Following up on the previous comments I think the structure of your paper is well thought out. Just explain a little more precisely why you are using a certain type of company (“big”, certain industrial sector?) and whether your outcome will be applicable to any other company or sector. I did not get the relation to the theories neither. I would recommend to demonstrate your choice for using them.

  5. Good. Remember that you don’t have too much space for an extensive number of case studies to present so preferably choose 1-2 illustrative ones. Also, it would be probably a bit more analytical to briefly discuss why I and K _can_ be important/significant (and how) for companies than to plainly argue that they are important.
