I början av nästa vecka, måndagen 12.2, lanseras Åbo Akademis nya webb. Från och med ungefär klockan 17 kommer ÅA:s webb att se helt annorlunda ut och till en del också ha helt annat innehåll.

 

Hur påverkar detta mig, vad bör jag göra?

I det stora hela påverkar webbreformen inte dig värst mycket och du behöver inte göra annat än att njuta av den nya webben och vara stolt över att ditt universitet har Finlands absolut modernaste och djärvaste webb!

 

Varför har detta gjorts

Vår gamla webb har en hel del både tekniska och innehållsmässiga problem. Av de tekniska är det mest i ögonen fallande det faktum att webbsidorna inte optimerats för bruk på mobiltelefoner. Den nya webben fungerar utmärkt såväl på en smarttelefon, en padda som en dator.

Innehållsmässigt är den gamla webbens stora problem att den innehåller huller om buller såväl material riktat åt oss som redan är vid akademin som externa webbsurfare. Det andra stora innehållsproblemet är att det är svårt att hitta det man söker.

Problemet med att hitta det man söker efter har lösts med den nya sökmotorn som fungerar lite som Google. Den börjar söka genast då du skrivit in de tre första bokstäverna av ditt sökord och den visar också sökresultaten kategoriserade. Sökträffar bland utbildningslinjer, ämnen, webbsidor, anställda o.s.v. visas alla som sina egna helheter.

Problemet med det brokiga innehållet på gamla webben har lösts genom strikt målgruppstänk. Den nya webben är externt riktad och finns huvudsakligen till för att locka nya studerande och forskare till Åbo Akademi samt för att erbjuda information om akademin för alla intresserade. Det här betyder att den nya ÅA-webben inte innehåller och kommer inte heller att innehålla material som riktar sig enbart till oss som redan jobbar, studerar och forskar här. Vårt material kommer i sinom tid att föras över till ett nytt intranät. Under övergångsperioden kommer det interna materialet att finnas kvar på vår gamla webb, som samtidigt alltså fungerar som ett temporärt intranät och ligger bakom inloggning.

 

Var finns allt gammalt material?

Allt material som finns på den gamla webben kommer att finnas kvar där, men bakom inloggning.

En länk till den gamla webben hittas i den nya webbens meny under rubriken Intranätet. Utseendet på den gamla webbens startsida kommer att ändras en del för att klarare reflektera att du nu är på akademins tillfälliga intranät.

I något skede kommer den gamla webben att ersättas av ett nytt intranät och efter det kommer den gamla webben att slutligen raderas.

 

Vad händer med alla gamla länkar?

Alla relevanta s.k. marknadsföringsadresser (t.ex. www.abo.fi/sea) fortsätter fungera, men de kommer naturligtvis att leda till motsvarande sida i den nya webben. Du behöver inte göra något för att dessa skall fungera.

Råkar du ha ett bokmärke till en viss sida, eller om det finns en länk någonstans ute i världen till någon specifik undersida på gamla webben kommer den länken att fortsätta fungera, men användarnamn och lösenord kommer att krävas innan man kan se sidan. För den som har loggat in på den gamla webben fungerar allt där på vanligt sätt.

 

Hur fortsätter arbetet

Arbetet med den nya webben tar naturligtvis inte slut i och med lanseringen 12.2. Det kommer säkert upp saker som måste ändras, funktioner som måste filas och naturligtvis också önskemål om nya funktioner.

På motsvarande sätt fortsätter arbetet med den gamla webben. Material som finns på den nya webben kommer att plockas bort från den gamla webben. De som haft tillgång till Sitebuilder har det fortfarande och kan den vägen komma åt även dessa bortplockade filer. Så småningom hoppas vi dock kunna helt radera gammalt material.

Då det gäller frågor och problem med webben skall du i fortsättningen i första hand kontakta webbredaktören på din fakultet/enhet, hen för sedan frågan vidare ifall hen inte själv kan lösa saken. Samma gäller önskemål om ny funktionalitet.

Next week, on Monday, 12 February, the new website of Åbo Akademi University will be launched. From around 5 p.m. on Monday, the ÅAU website will have a completely new look and, in part, new contents as well.

 

How Does This Affect Me? What Should I Do?

The website reform should not have any particular effect on your everyday life. All you need to do is to enjoy the new ÅAU site and be proud of the fact that your university has the absolutely most advanced and boldest website in Finland!

 

Why Is This Being Done?

The old website had its problems, both technically speaking and in terms of its contents. On the technical side, the most obvious problem was the lack of optimisation for mobile devices. The new website will function excellently regardless of whether you use it via a smart phone, tablet or PC.

Content-wise, one big problem with the old website was that it had, all in a jumble, both such materials that were intended for people within ÅAU and contents primarily intended for external web surfers. The second major problem was that people had difficulties finding what they were looking for.

This problem has now been resolved by means of the new search engine which works a bit like Google as it starts searching as soon as you have entered the first three letters in the search field. The new search engine displays the search results by categories. Hits will be arranged and shown by study programmes, subjects, website, personnel etc.

The old website’s problem concerning its mixed and varied contents has been solved by focusing more closely on the target audiences. The new website is more externally oriented, and its main purpose is to attract new students and researchers to ÅAU, while also providing information about AÅU to anyone interested. This means that the new website does not and will not contain material that is only intended for those who already work, study or research at ÅAU. Such material will, in time, be transferred to our new intranet.

During the transition period, the internal material will remain available in the old website, which will also serve as a temporary intranet, and as such, will require visitors to log in.

 

Where Will I Find All The Old Materials?

All material in the old website will continue to be available. However, to access the material, you have to log in.

In the new website’s menu, there will be a link under the heading Intranet, which will take you to the old website. The appearance of the old website’s home page will be slightly revised in order to make it clear that you’re in the temporary intranet of ÅAU.

At some point in the future, the old website will be replaced by the new intranet and will, consequently, be completely shut down.

 

What Will Happen To The Old Links?

All those addresses that are relevant for marketing purposes (for example, www.abo.fi/sea) will continue to work, but they will naturally lead to the corresponding page in the new website. You don’t need to do anything to ensure their continued functioning.

If you have bookmarked a particular web page, or if there is a link somewhere out there to a particular page in the old website, such links will continue to function, but a username and password will be required for a person to view the page. For those who are logged in to the old website, everything in the site will work as usual.

 

How Will The Website Project Continue?

Work on the new website will not end with the launch on 12 February. There will certainly be aspects that call for amendment, functions that require polishing, not to mention requests for new functionalities.

Correspondingly, work on the old website will also continue. Materials included in the new website will be removed from the old website. Anyone with access rights to SiteBuilder will continue to have those rights, and will, thereby, be able to access even the removed files. Gradually, however, we hope to be able to remove all of the old materials.

If you have any questions or problems related to the website, you should primarily contact the web editor for your own faculty or unit. If unable to solve the problem, they will forward the matter to the relevant experts. The same procedure applies to any requests for new online functionalities.
