The conference\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will be held<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in a virtual format. We wish<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to provide an opportunity<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0public discourse and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the dissemination of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">latest research results<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0despite\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the pandemic situation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">heme<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of this year\u2019s conference<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is \u201dDemocracy\u2019s Crisis and Future\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Democratic dissatisfaction\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">has<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0been growing by many accounts<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ran<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sgressions of democratic norms<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0have also become increasingly commonplace<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, even in established democracies.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The liberal international<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0order<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0appears<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0challenged. On the other hand<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0new forms of political participation have been emerging in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">many countries.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What is the f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">uture\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of democracy? How could we rejuvenate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">democratic\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">institutions so that they\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">would<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0better meet<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0current democratic challenges?
