Sci. <strong>Nina Tynkkynen<\/strong> has her background in environmental social science. She is an Associate Professor under the profiling area \u2018The Sea\u2019 at \u00c5bo Akademi University. She is also an adjunct professor (docent) in environmental policy at the University of Helsinki. Tynkkynen has studied the environmental governance of the Baltic Sea, science-policy interaction in marine protection as well as cultural and social meanings of water. She has ca. 25 international peer-review publications on the topic. Her research focuses on comparative water governance of large water bodies such as the Baltic Sea and the North American Great Lakes. Her research area is the environmental heritage related to the sea and coastal areas as lived and experienced environments. She explores the ways in which people observe their environment and changes in nature and adapt to different climatic conditions. She studies the habits, traditions, and interpretations regarding this observation. Her research data consists of workshop materials, interviews, and water-related mythic and folklore material. She is interested in the ways people have engaged with their environment and how they have written and described their experiences. She completed her Ph.D. in cultural history at the University of Turku in 2011. After that, she has worked as a senior lecturer in landscape studies and as a post-doctoral researcher in landscape architecture in the Aalto University. In SEAHER, she is interested in the cultural history of seasons. She is reading diaries, letters, and novels in order to understand how people have interpreted weather, environment and seasonal change in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-113\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs2.abo.fi\/seaher\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/111\/2019\/02\/Otto_150px_150px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs2.abo.fi\/seaher\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/111\/2019\/02\/Otto_150px_150px.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs2.abo.fi\/seaher\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/111\/2019\/02\/Otto_150px_150px-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. <strong>Otto Latva<\/strong> is a historian, specialized in human-animal studies and the ways in which people of the past perceived the sea environment. Latva\u00a0has published several writings on the historical relationship between humans and sea animal, and the ways in which the underwater environment has been perceived in history. In this project, Latva\u00a0will explore the changes in the shared past between humans and the Baltic fauna and flora. He is an Assistant Professor under the profiling area \u2018The Sea and the Maritime Studies\u2019 at the University of Turku. R\u00e4s\u00e4nen has studied the history of environmentalism, the history of marine sciences and the history of the Baltic Sea environmental diplomacy. Her work has concentrated on the resilience of marine communities, especially fisheries. Her special interests are local ecological knowledge, political ecology, and cultural sustainability. She will complete her Ph.D. in 2019.
