About ProSpectS (2024–2027)
The research project ProSpectS aims to study leadership, teacher supervision, and learning support in language immersion programs in Finland. The main focus in the study are the experiences of child-care leaders, principals, special education teachers, childcare providers, preschool teachers, class teachers, subject teachers, as well as student teachers.
The project is funded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland and Aktiastiftelsen i Vasa.
The project group consists of researchers from Åbo Akademi University, Finland.
The project also has a steering group with specialists from universities in Canada, Ireland and Finland.
Project news
The project gave a presentation at the international ECER conference in Tampere on 18–21 August 2026. The presentation focused on teachers’ reflections of the provision of support for bilingual learning in language immersion in Finland.
The project presented research results at the Nordand 17 conference in Bergen, Norway on 10–12 June 2026. The presentation focused on the perceptions of immersion teachers and leaders regarding prerequisites for language immersion.
The project presented research results at the Svenskan i Finland 22 conference in Tampere on 12–13 March 2026. The presentation focused on language choices and language use outside the classroom context in language immersion units.
On 18 March 2025 the project arranged a kickoff webinar to officially launch the project. The project was introduced by the project group and 30 participants took part in the event.
