The problem of the distinction between language and communication is not particular to the most recent period, but its persistence and significance need to be made visible in a historical moment of celebration of growth in the field research. Specifically, I will illustrate ways in which mathematics teacher education on language use in mathematics teaching can benefit from a clearer understanding of the potential of linguistic forms of content-based mathematical communication. To do so, I will share snapshots with data and findings produced in collaborative workshops with secondary-school teachers in Barcelona.

and associate professor Terhi Mäntylä, https://www.jyu.fi/edupsy/fi/laitokset/okl/henkilosto/mantyla-terhi

Teaching and learning physics’ concepts and knowledge structures in physics teacher education

Abstract: Solid subject matter knowledge is a necessity for a physics teacher. However, the nature of the physics teacher’s subject matter knowledge is not obvious and requires deeper inspection. I will first discuss from a viewpoint of teaching a research-based instruction approach of didactical reconstructions of processes and structures that stems from that inspection. I also present case studies of implementing these didactical reconstructions, which aim for consolidating and organizing pre-service physics teachers’ subject matter knowledge. From the learning perspective, I will discuss the processes of learning physics concepts and conceptual change that the pre-service physics teachers are experiencing when they are solving conceptual inquiry tasks in pairs or small groups.

Key-note lectures will be given by professor Núria Planas, https://www.education.ox.ac.uk/people/nuria_planas/ Language and communication: Closely related but not equivalent in mathematics education Abstract: In this talk, I will present some insights into mathematics education research on language and on communication, with a focus on challenges posed by the common lack of distinction between language and communication …

Fortsätt läsa ”Invited lectures”

["post-22","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
