M\u00e4nsklighetens historia och villkor \u00e4r helt sammanl\u00e4nkad med hav och vatten. Den humanistiska forskningen har trots det huvudsakligen studerat m\u00e4nniskan som landvarelse. Forskningsinriktningar som r\u00f6r klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna rubriceras ofta som \u201dgr\u00f6na\u201d. Det tv\u00e4rvetenskapliga f\u00e4ltet bl\u00e5 humaniora har de senaste tv\u00e5 decennierna utvecklats som en motreaktion p\u00e5 detta \u2013 mot klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna i antropocen och mot humanioras blinda fl\u00e4ckar f\u00f6r havets och vattnets fundamentala betydelse f\u00f6r m\u00e4nskligheten \u2013 historiskt, i nuet och i framtiden. Inom bl\u00e5 humaniora unders\u00f6ks m\u00e4nniskans relation till hav och vatten i olika former, i olika tider. Studier inom f\u00e4ltet unders\u00f6ker bland annat hur hav och vatten f\u00f6rst\u00e5tts och anv\u00e4nts i olika tider och p\u00e5 olika platser, hur det skildras i konst och litteratur, och hur m\u00e4nniskor lever med hav och vatten i sin vardag.<\/p>\n
Posthumanistiska perspektiv p\u00e5 m\u00e4nniskans relationer till det mer-\u00e4n-m\u00e4nskliga, till natur, platser, djur och v\u00e4xter, \u00e4r vanliga inom f\u00e4ltet. S\u00e5 \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 maktkritiska och postkoloniala perspektiv.<\/p>\n
F\u00e4ltet \u00f6verlappar d\u00e4rmed delvis den maritima etnologin, som har en l\u00e5ng tradition av forskning om b\u00e5t- och sk\u00e4rg\u00e5rdsliv, kustsamh\u00e4llen och fiske, och som de senaste decennierna breddats till att ocks\u00e5 omfatta havets roll f\u00f6r m\u00e4nniskor, samh\u00e4llen och kulturarvsfr\u00e5gor.<\/p>\n
Havens och vattnens inneb\u00f6rder f\u00f6r v\u00e4rlden kommer att forts\u00e4tta f\u00f6r\u00e4ndras med klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna, vilket g\u00f6r kulturvetenskapliga f\u00f6rst\u00e5elser f\u00f6r m\u00e4nniska\/vatten-relationer s\u00e4rskilt viktiga.<\/p>\n
Tidskriften Kulturella Perspektiv samlar nu bidrag om relationer mellan m\u00e4nniskor och vatten under temat \u201dBl\u00e5 humaniora\u201d. Bidrag kan r\u00f6ra m\u00e4nskliga relationer till hav och vattendrag, is, \u00e5nga, eller f\u00e4rskvatten, eller till djur, v\u00e4xter och varelser i maritima sammanhang, i olika tider och kontexter.<\/p>\n

Despite this, humanistic research has predominantly studied humans as land-based beings. Research concerned with climate change is often framed as \u201cgreen\u201d. Over the past two decades, the interdisciplinary field of blue humanities has developed partly in response to this \u2013 both to climate change in the Anthropocene, and to the humanities\u2019 blind spots concerning the fundamental importance of the sea and water to humanity, historically, in the present, and in the future.<\/p>\n Blue humanities explore human relationships with the sea and water in different forms, and across different periods. Research in the field examines, among other things, how the sea and water have been understood and used at different times and in different places, how they are represented in art and literature, and how people live with the sea and water in their everyday lives. Posthumanist perspectives on human relationships with the more-than-human \u2013 with nature, places, animals, and plants \u2013 are common within the field, as are critical approaches to power, and postcolonial perspectives.<\/p>\n The field partly overlaps with maritime ethnology, which has a long tradition of research on boat and archipelago life, coastal communities, and fishing, and which in recent decades has broadened to also encompass the significance of the sea for people, communities, and questions of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n The meanings and significance of seas and waters for the world will continue to change as a result of climate change, making cultural understandings of human\/water relationships particularly important.<\/p>\n The journal Kulturella Perspektiv is now inviting contributions on relationships between humans and water under the theme \u201cBlue Humanities\u201d. Contributions may address human relationships with seas and waterways, ice, steam, or freshwater, or with animals, plants, and other beings in maritime contexts, across different periods and contexts.<\/p>\n Submit your abstract during autumn 2026, no later than 30 November. Articles should be completed by May 2027.
