This time, folklorist Ingibj\u00f6rg S\u00e6d\u00eds will present her recent research on dog culture in Iceland, ”Of Koli, Lucy, and L\u00fakas: A Hundred Years of Icelandic’ Dog Culture’.” The lecture will explore the history of dogs within Iceland’s urban culture. Topics include the relationship between humans and ”non-human animals”, the unique role of pets and companion animals in nature, an overview of the status of animals in urban culture, the history of Reykjav\u00edk, and the dog ban in Reykjav\u00edk, which lasted from 1924 to 1984.
\nThe research is based on a discourse analysis of different periods, as discussions about dog ownership in urban areas were often highly debated, with people holding divided opinions on the subject.<\/p>\n
This event is a collaboration between Reykjav\u00edk City Museum and the Icelandic Folklore Association.<\/p>\n
