Radical new innovations in these must be sought in the spirit of business scope and process redesign. One untapped resource that has already been witnessed to improve the operation of several different\u00a0types of organizations is Big Data. This free resource that has always been around, is just now widely usable, because of better understanding of its nature, and because of the increasingly sophisticated methods of analyzing Big Data. Wisely applied, Big Data can radically improve the functioning of city administrations, resulting in more effective, democratically constructed and\u00a0accessible services for citizens on a sustainable basis. This research project focuses areas where Big Data is already reality: library services, health care and participative decision-making involving citizens.
